What We Test
- Shift smoothness and timing across the full rev range, not just around town
- Slipping under load — accelerating firmly to see if RPM rises without matching road speed
- CVT-specific shudder or drone under acceleration, a known issue across several brands
- Dual-clutch (DSG/PDK) hesitation or jerkiness from a standstill
- Transmission fluid colour, smell and level where accessible
- Clutch engagement point and bite feel on manual transmissions
Why We Push the Test a Bit Harder
Many transmission faults only appear under sustained load or at specific speeds. A gentle drive around the block at 40km/h often won't reveal them — our road test deliberately includes some firmer acceleration and varied speeds to expose problems earlier.
